Gunville murder case committed for trial

The court case surrounding the death of a 50-year-old man in Prince Albert last year, has been committed for trial at Prince Albert Court of Queen’s Bench.

Judith Sasakamoose, 38, is facing a charge of manslaughter in the death of Albert Gunville in Feb. 2019.

Sasakamoose was originally charged with second degree murder, but the lesser charge was agreed upon at the conclusion of a preliminary hearing.

Neither the evidence heard during the hearing, nor the reasons for the lesser charge can be discussed at this time to a publication ban. The judge’s written decision was read Monday morning at Prince Albert Provincial Court.

On Feb. 20, 2019, police responded to a weapons call in the 1200 block of 17th St. W., where they found Gunville in critical condition. Gunville was taken to hospital but later died.

Family members have described Gunville as a hard-working father who enjoyed visiting and socializing, and made time for others. Gunville grew up as one of nine siblings in the small community of Adanac Sask., near Unity.

The trial has been scheduled to take place at Prince Albert Court of Queen’s Bench but no date has been set.
