P.A. woman reports assault during afternoon jog

Jun 3, 2020 | 5:20 PM

Harley Libke is encouraging women in the city to be extra cautious, following a traumatic incident she endured early Wednesday afternoon.

The 25-year-old was out for her routine afternoon jog, and was in the area of 22nd St. E. and fifth Ave. E, when out of nowhere she was approached by a stranger.

“[He] ran up behind me, slapped my ass, grabbed it, and then I turned out ready to swing and he was taking off and cut into the back alley,” she said.

The incident happened around 12:10 p.m. Libke said the man did not speak to her, but as he was running away, looked back and was smiling and laughing.

As soon as Libke got home, she called police and gave a description of the man: older 20s or early 30s, and about 5’5″. Libke added the man who assaulted her was wearing a black shirt and tan shorts.

Despite the incident Wednesday, Libke said she does not plan to stop running, explaining she always tries to be cautious, and does not stick to the same route.

“I change things up every time I go running because there’s always the creeps out there like I get cat-called a lot,” she said. “I never expected anything like this to happen.”

Charlene Tebbutt, a spokesperson for the Prince Albert Police Service, confirmed for paNOW the incident is under investigation, and was the only complaint of that nature received by police on Wednesday.
