COVID-19 losses, plastic bags and composting on the council agenda

Jun 1, 2020 | 1:01 PM

Prince Albert city council will discuss financial losses due to the COVID-19 pandemic at Monday night’s meeting.

City administration is projecting Prince Albert could face $750,000 worth of losses by the end of the calendar year. That number could change depending on when and how provincial restrictions are lifted. Decreased revenue and additional expenses in a number of areas, including the airport and transit, combined with the continued closure of city facilities are putting a strain on the city’s finances.

Also on the meeting agenda is a proposed new residential care home in the East Flat and a plan to reopen parts of the transit system that were scaled back in response to the pandemic.

The city’s politicians are also set to give final approval to a plan to use the digital billboard to celebrate graduates and increase the utility deposit for new accounts from $150 to $250. They’ll also likely sign off on a list of infrastructure projects to be funded by a provincial grant.
