PAEX 2020 Summer Fair and Polkafest postponed

May 26, 2020 | 10:50 AM

The Prince Albert Exhibition Summer Fair and Polkafest is postponed amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to a media release from the Prince Albert Exhibition Association, this is the first cancellation in the event’s 139-year history.

The board of directors of the Prince Albert Exhibition Association voted to postpone both events citing community and volunteer safety.

This year organizers planned to expand the event’s entertainment and Grandstand shows with new attractions. The fair was originally scheduled to run from July 28 to Aug. 1 and the Polkafest was expected to happen in late August.

The Exhibition organizers said they will be moving forward with the new plans for next year’s events in 2021.

“As difficult as this decision was, it is in the best interests of our community and public health, and it is the right action at this time,” President Robbie Ross said in the media release. “Planning for Fair 2020 was well underway and our 15 board members and staff had worked tirelessly to make 2020 the best fair ever. I was personally excited to see all this hard work come to fruition in 2020, however that planning will not be wasted — watch for Summer Fair 2021 to be an even more spectacular community event.”

The fair brings millions of dollars to Prince Albert and the Polkafest is one of the largest in Western Canada. The Prince Albert Exhibition will continue to assess all events going forward.
