Farmers’ market open

The Prince Albert Farmers’ Market is back in business.

The first market of the season happened on Saturday and treasurer Cassie Tenkink and others were happy with the number of people who came out.

“It was a better turnout than we expected,” she said.

Tenkink said they had 13 vendors come out and set up their booths. She estimated there were between 150 to 200 shoppers who came out.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the market has put in place measures to protect customers and vendors. This includes only allowing one customer at a table per time and asking people not to touch anything unless they plan to buy it.

“We have our social distancing signage up for all of our customers that show up,” she said.

All vendors have hand sanitizer at their booths. Tenkink explained the market has been helped by Errington Lake Distillery, which is providing important supplies.

“They are actually providing all of the hand sanitizer for our vendors,” she said.

The market is scheduled every Saturday at city hall’s parking lot. Tenkink said a second weekly market is in the works for Wednesdays starting in July. She added they are happy to be back and many were quite busy leading up the weekend.

“Our vendors are very happy,” she said.
