Bear spray bandits sought by police

Prince Albert Police say bear spray was used to assault two separate people in the city’s midtown neighbourhood over the weekend.

The first incident happened Saturday night in the 100 block of Eighth St. E and the victim was described as a food delivery driver. Police say the victim was assaulted and robbed.

The next night, a resident in the 300 block of Eighth St. E. was bear sprayed during an altercation with three people. The circumstances were not described by police but speaking with paNOW on the condition his name won’t be published, the 54-year-old victim explained how he and his girlfriend were home watching television, when she noticed a group of men walking by houses, checking vehicle doors.

“She went out the door and yelled at them. I followed her out then followed the three down the street to the alley. I was walking not chasing just following,” he said.

The man then went on to explain how suddenly the group stopped, and soon after a verbal altercation took place.

“One started to approach me. I saw the arm come up and decided I had no choice so rushed the person that’s when I got sprayed, I couldn’t really see much after that but could make out that two were running away from me and the one that had the spray was still in front of me I got sprayed again,” he said.

After the short physical altercation, the man said he turned to walk away. Fortunately for him, one of his neighbours was nearby and helped him get home.

Police have not said if the two incidents are connected.
