Police search for stolen specialty bike

Prince Albert’s Anna Peters says she cannot understand why someone would steal her niece’s tricycle.

The pink bike is no ordinary item as it is specially designed to suit the needs of 13-year-old Coraal, who has cerebral palsy. The family lives in the 1400 block of 12th Street. W.

“They cut my back fence open with bolt cutters I assume. I’ve got a big hole in my fence,” Peters said, adding she believes the theft happened early Tuesday morning while the family was sleeping.

The trike, which is worth over $3,000 – funded through social services – was stolen last fall as well but on that occasion a group of children was found with it.

Peters explained the family took the tricycle to Coraal’s school, but brought it back home when the COVID-19 precautions forced the cancellation of classes.

“We will be pressing charges whoever has it,” Peters said. “I know it’s not young kids. There won’t be young kids with bolt cutters.”

Peters noted the bicycle could not be easily carried off, explaining police used their truck last time to bring it back, and the family has a hard time loading it into their van. The timing of the incident couldn’t be worse. After contacting police Peters said she attended a family member’s funeral.

A spokesperson for the Prince Albert Police Service has confirmed they are investigating.
