The Prince Albert Northern Bears have signed several new players including Prince Albert native Jazlyn Petreman.

The team made the announcements on its Twitter feed over the weekend. Also joining the Bears in the Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League are forwards Jasmine Kohl of Moose Jaw, Calla Kampen from Fiske, Shell Lake’s Brooklin Fry on defence and goalie Brook Archer from Mossbank, Sask. The team also welcomed their newest recruit, forward Kassie Ferster from Shellbrook.

Bears named to U-16/U-18 Top 29

The Saskatchewan Hockey Association (SHA) SaskFirst High Performance program announced the Top 29 players in the Female Under-18 program along with the top 34 players in the female Under-16 program.

Making the U-18 roster are current P.A. Northern Bears forwards Haley Kicia, Paris Oleksyn, Kailey Ledoux and Kailee Peppler on defence. Newly acquired centre Jasmine Kohl was named to the U-16 team.

Usually, the players take part in the SaskFirst Tournament held in April where they get significant exposure to scouts from a variety of elite leagues. But due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the April tournament was cancelled.

“Despite the cancellation of the SaskFirst Female Tournament, we are fortunate to have player evaluations from our I.D. Camps that allowed us to make these selections. We are confident with the players selected and look forward to meeting up this summer,” SaskFirst High Performance program director Joel Houseman was quoted on the SHA’s website.

The top 29 players from the U-18 team will take part in a virtual workout and team builder in June. From there, an orientation camp is scheduled for August in Regina with the final camp scheduled for mid September. At that point, the final roster will be selected to attend Nationals in Dawson Creek, B.C. in early November. The female U-16 program will send two teams to the Swift Current Wildcats Pre-season Showcase in September.
