P.A. city council to debate tax increase for businesses assessed at over $5 million

Apr 8, 2020 | 2:46 PM

Prince Albert city councillors will debate a tax increase for businesses assessed at over $5 million during Wednesday’s special city council meeting.

Previously the mill rate was applied evenly across commercial and industrial properties. For 2020, city administration is recommending the mill rate factor be increased for commercial and industrial properties with an assessed value of over $5 million.

According to city administrators, the increase is needed to cover the cost the city spends on property tax appeals by large businesses.

But representatives from the Prince Albert Chamber of Commerce say dividing businesses this way is unfair.
