SPCA in need of donations to cope with COVID-19
The manager of the Prince Albert SPCA says COVID-19 has presented their operations with a number of challenges.
Animal shelters are among the latest businesses to be declared an essential service but that does not mean operations are running at normal levels. Ashlee Bober spoke with paNOW on Monday and explained the office is no longer open to the public and all volunteer programs have been temporarily halted.
“The low amount of traffic coming in here each day is definitely impacting the animals because they are used to having people coming in and playing with them everyday,” she said.
In addition to a number of temporary staff layoffs, another challenge has been a drop in donations. Bober said she understands the hardships people are going through right now, but added the SPCA still has mouths to feed and animals to entertain, so gifts of food and toys are appreciated. Monetary donations are also needed to help cover medical expenses.
