Victoria Hospital Foundation reaching out amid COVID-19

The Victoria Hospital Foundation (VHF) is putting out a call for donations.

Foundation CEO Sherry Buckler said although it is a difficult and uncertain time for people, the hospital could use some help.

“But if you are ever going to make a gift to the Victoria Hospital, this would be the time to do it,” she said.

Buckler has had early discussions with the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) and said there is certain equipment in demand. This ranges from personal protective equipment for staff to ventilators. Buckler added it would also make it easier on staff to have more blood pressure monitors, as they move the monitors around between rooms which creates more work for staff.

“You can imagine the risk there and how much disinfecting needs to be done in between uses,” she said.

Going forward Buckler explained priorities could change as the situation continues to develop. She said they will know more about the equipment needed when SHA releases a list.

Buckler said they had people in the community and surrounding area asking how they can help. The best way for people to make a contribution is to go online to the foundation’s website. Those interested in making a donation another way are being encouraged to get in touch with the VHF. People are asked not to come to the hospital.

The COVID-19 outbreak has led the SHA to put the brakes on projects across the province. This includes the new neonatal intensive care unit and the expanded Victoria Hospital. Buckler said when the COVID-19 situation is dealt with those projects will continue.

“Projects like the NICU and new hospital will of course continue where they left off,” she said.
