International Women’s Day concert will showcase female artists

Mar 7, 2020 | 8:00 AM

In celebration of International Women’s Day, SaskMusic with support from The Foundation Assisting Canadian Talent on Recordings (FACTOR) will present concerts across the province on Saturday.

At 7 p.m. Jam Street Music Sessions will host the concert in Prince Albert featuring female artists. It will be a celebration of women in music even though International Women’s Day isn’t until Sunday.

SaskMusic Communications and Operations Manager Lorena Kelly told paNOW there will be seven concerts across Saskatchewan and P.A.’s will feature four different artists.

The night will showcase two bands Rymestone and The Upside as well as two solo artists Dara Schindelka and Rhonda Gallant-Morari.

“What we find generally in Prince Albert is it’s really a night of crowd,” Kelly said. “We definitely have tickets still available. We’re anticipating a lot of them are just going to be sold at the door the night of.”

Proceeds from the ticket sales will be going to the Prince Albert Safe Shelter for Women. Kelly said it is an all-ages show.

“One of the questions we’ve gotten is ‘Are men welcome?’ and absolutely you don’t have to be a female to attend. It’s a celebration of females in music, but everyone is welcome,” Kelly explained.

She said people can expect to have a fun time seeing emerging and established artists playing different genres of music.

“Hopefully there’s a little something in the show for everybody,” Kelly added.

Jam Street Music Sessions Owner Lucy James said last year it was a full crowd and is hoping this year is the same.

She thinks it is fitting for her to host the event again as a female business owner.

“It would be great to have everybody come out and support the event because all of the ticket sales is a fundraiser for the women’s safe shelter right here in Prince Albert,” she said. “Everyone is welcome to come including kids, seniors, you know the whole range should come.”
