Plus $200 million for new P.A. hospital

The provincial government has confirmed the tender for advisory services for a new hospital in Prince Albert that will cost more than $200 million.

Health Minister Jim Reiter said as much to reporters in the legislature Wednesday afternoon.

During Question Period at the legislative session Wednesday there was discussion between the NDP and government over a request for proposals (RFP) for advisory procurement services for a project over $200 million. The RFP is not a tender for the build itself, but for advisory services surrounding the build.

It is not yet clear what the total build cost of the new hospital would be.

“For size and scope [of the project] … I’m not being coy … the people of Prince Albert have been waiting a long time for this announcement on Friday and that’s going to get into more detail into what that project’s going to look like, size and that sort of thing.”

Meanwhile, NDP MLA for Prince Albert Northcote Nicole Rancourt told paNOW her party had been advocating for a commitment from the government that the project be built with Saskatchewan workers and Saskatchewan companies ” so the dollars can stay in the province.”

On hearing the news Sherry Buckler with the Victoria Hospital Foundation told paNOW they’re ready to lead the fundraising campaign.

Editor’s note: this story has been amended to make clear the government has not approved a total figure for the construction of a new hospital in P.A. but has issued a tender for advisory procurement services for a project over $200 million. More information is expected Friday.
