Mintos head into the playoffs with a pair of nice road wins
Get the hair dye out, the Prince Albert Mintos are heading into the playoffs with a pair of wins under their belt. They defeated the Swift Current Legionnaires 3-1 on Saturday before a chippy 5-2 win over the Yorkton Maulers close out their regular season.
Turner McMillen scored a hat trick in Yorkton. And on Saturday, the Mintos scored three of their goals in a 22-second span. Kody Willick, Dallyn Peekeekoot and Austin McLean all scored quickly for the Mintos.
But even before the results, the Mintos knew they would be facing the Saskatoon Contacts in the first round of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League playoffs. The Contacts finished in third place with a 30-12-0-2 record, while the Mintos are the sixth seeds with a 27-15-1-1 record.
The Mintos won the first meeting between the two sides 3-1 on Oct. 3, but the Contacts won the rest of their matchups, 3-2 on Nov. 21, 4-2 on Dec. 3 and 4-1 on Jan. 18.
