Police investigate after shots fired at Midtown home

Prince Albert’s Kelly Pickering has been through her fair share of emotional trauma. Nearly three months after her son’s disappearance, someone used her house for target practice.

The shooting happened early Saturday morning. The first bullet entered the house through a window in the room where Pickering’s youngest son was sleeping. Her son told her he heard a ‘ping’ sound. She traced the bullet’s path from the window to a nearby wall.

“I went in the computer room and saw another hole where it came through and then looked and there was an indentation in my bookcase and then it ricocheted back off the wall and ended up on the floor underneath a computer chair,” she said.

After conducting a more thorough search of her house, Pickering discovered a second bullet lodged into the frame of her front door, which shattered the glass. After speaking with police, Pickering said the officers told her the incident was random.

“I was sort of on edge Saturday night, just sort of listening and nothing happened. Nothing happened Sunday either so I just figured it was a random act of violence. I don’t know if someone was walking by and they were shooting at him or if they just thought they’d shoot up a house,” she said.

It’s the latest upsetting event for Pickering.

Her eldest son Donald went missing last November and has not been seen or heard from since.

Despite the weekend’s incident, Pickering said she is not afraid and has no plans to move.

“Ive been here for 25 years and that is the first time I’ve had anything happen to me in this house. I’ve never had a break-in, I’ve never had a vandalism,” she said.

Investigators are also working to determine what happened Friday morning in the 2000 block of 15th Ave. E. A resident reported his vehicle was damaged. Police have not said whether the two incidents are related.
