P.A. Trail Riders Winter Festival Snowmobile Rally a family fun event

The Prince Albert Trail Riders Winter Festival Snowmobile Rally drew a large crowd at the Prince Albert Wildlife Federation today.

Nearly 100 snowmobilers hit the trails on Saturday for a long ride.

Gerry Dolezsar, president of the Trail Riders, said the participants drove towards Holbein, then back across the river, through the Nisbet Forest and back around the city.

“It’s around 100 miles if you do the whole deal so it’s a nice ride,” he said.

He added with the riders taking their time through the trail, and stopping for lunch at the shelter near Holbein, it is close to a five-hour ride. Many snowmobilers liked the idea of shelters so close to the city.

“It makes it very family orientated which is what we’re promoting,” Dolezsar said. “There’s guys who want to go tearing across the field and so on but the whole idea is to get the whole family out.”

Money raised from a silent auction that was held will go towards the maintenance and development of the snowmobile trail system.

The Snowmobile Rally got plenty of sunshine today with a high of -17 C, according to The Weather Network.

“Normally for us -15 C to -20 C is perfect riding temperature, The machines run really nice and of course with all the gear that’s available today, I find at -15 C you’re too hot actually,” he explained.

Dolezsar wanted to give thanks to everyone who participated in the rally.

Prince Albert resident Brad Hurt said he’s been snowmobiling all his life because he grew up around it.

“Snowmobiled with my parents and now I got my daughter into it,” he said. “We go to a few rallies each year and we try to hit the P.A. one every year. We’ve been to it every time they’ve had it here in P.A.”

He added it’s good to get the family outside and enjoy the winter.

“Just getting out with the family and the freedom being outside and just kind of ride,” he said.
