SaskPower, electrical workers agree to new labour contract

Feb 13, 2020 | 3:47 PM

Unionized electrical workers at SaskPower have a new contract with the company that takes them through to the end of 2022 and gives them a seven per cent wage increase spread out over six years.

The Crown corporation announced the news in a media release Thursday morning.

The 1,686 members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 2067 voted to ratify the contract.

Retroactive to Jan. 1, 2017 and good until Dec. 31, 2022, the deal includes the following wage increases each year, starting with 2019: one per cent, two per cent, two per cent and two per cent.

SaskPower’s executive and board of directors also approved the contract.

In November 2017, the union rejected an offer from SaskPower of a 3.5 per cent wage decrease and a three-year wage freeze. The reductions were announced by then-finance minister Kevin Doherty as a way to help balance the provincial budget.

The previous labour contract ended on Dec. 31.
