A man facing charges in La Ronge, Melfort, and Prince Albert has his show cause hearing adjourned.

Gerald Laliberte, 38, appeared in Melfort Provincial Court on Thursday, Feb. 6. He was scheduled to go through his show cause hearing until it was revealed federal Crown prosecutors want him to appear in court with a co-accused in Prince Albert on Feb. 13 to reset trial dates for both.

“When you’re facing a show cause hearing, all charges are usually in one jurisdiction in case he wants to run a bail hearing,” provincial Crown Prosecutor Wade Rogers told northeastNOW. “All of his charges were here today, but he decided to return it to Prince Albert to deal with it.”

Laliberte is charged with:

  • two counts of escaping and being at large without excuse in La Ronge
  • possession of stolen property, three counts of resisting arrest, assaulting a police officer, and possession of methamphetamine in Melfort
  • possession of substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of stolen property, assault, and failure to appear in court in Prince Albert

On Jan. 6, RCMP were called about a stolen vehicle in the 100 block of Broadway Ave. Police spotted Laliberte and arrested him following a foot chase.

Laliberte will appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Thursday, Feb. 13 at 10 a.m. for show cause hearing.
