Mrs. Debbie Barton (nee Buchanan)

Debbie Barton passed away peacefully on January 31 2020 with her family by her side, at the age of 65.
Debbie was born in Prince Albert Sk, on April 25, 1954 to Anne and Fraser Buchanan. Debbie married her love, Jim, on August 4, 1973 in Prince Albert, Sk. Debbie and Jim have one daughter Jamie, who was born in September of 1977. Deb enjoyed her work and a long career at the Department of Highways for 38 years before retiring in 2011 at the age of 57.
Debbie enjoyed bowling, stock car racing, and was an avid gardener. She took pride in the flowers, garden, and appearance of the acreage in White Star where she lived with her loving husband for over 30 years. Debbie and Jim moved to Warman on December 14, 2019 to be closer to family when her health started to decline.
Deb found no greater pleasure than a drive in the country with Jim, a new set of gold earrings, or shopping for that perfect purse downtown. Deb enjoyed a game or two of the fast-paced and skilled art of Ladder ball. She would compete against her daughter and son-in-law and they quickly realized that Deb needed to be an asset on their team, and not the opponent.
Debbie found joy in such simple things like making the best and biggest campfire. She loved “stoking the fire” in their wood burning stove .You will never find a better “fire maker” than Mom. You better hope you had enough wood on hand to make that happen.
By far, Deb’s favorite pastime was sitting on the deck with Jim most evenings and waiting for those beautiful hummingbirds to make their appearance, being outdoors and spending those quiet times with her best friend of 47 years.
Debbie was a woman with such great hospitality. When friends popped by for a visit, she enjoyed waiting on her guests with flowing food and drink. You better believe a care package of home baked goodies, fresh bread, or a jar of pickles would always be waiting by the back door upon your departure.
Deb will be remembered for her fresh baked bread by everyone she knew. Besides perfecting that art of bread-making and sharing the fruits of her labor, Deb’s biggest accomplishment was becoming a Grandmother. She was filled with pride every time she spoke of Owen and Dalton. Her world revolved around keeping up to date with every happening, school event or extra-curricular activity. Grandma was sure to have everything just perfect for her boys on weekend visits right down to the fried dough (“dough-gobs!”) she made, and having those special snacks handy. Her boys were never without the THE MOST swanky pair of new school shoes every August. Grandma made sure to carry on this special family tradition. The boys will remember you most from the little jokes, pet names and quirky phrases that only you shared with them. The special way you and Owen hung up the phone after talking for long periods of time, and the loving lingo you and Dalton created together……”luv it you, Grandma Lulu”.
Mom, you are the THE strongest woman I have ever known. We will model your courage and strength in the way we carry ourselves through these tough days ahead. We will think of you when we hear the Eagles playing, knowing you are near us, resting peacefully and finally able to “Take it Easy”.
Left to celebrate her life are, her loving husband Jim, of White Star/Warman Sk, her daughter Jamie (Jim) MacRae of Warman Sk, her Grandson’s Owen and Dalton MacRae of Warman Sk, numerous sister and brother-in-laws, nieces and nephews and life long friends. Debbie was predeceased by her parents, Fraser and Anne Buchanan of Prince Albert, her parents-in-law, Joe and Edna Barton of Prince Albert, and her brother Cameron Buchanan.
The family would like to send a very special thank you to Brenda Heise, a dear friend, for being such a great support to Deb and her family in her final days.
Gratitude and acknowledgement must be made to the remarkable care that Mom received from the Palliative care staff at St. Pauls Hospital. Words cannot express the love and comfort Deb and her family felt through the hands of the nurses and doctors. Thank you for making mom’s final days and journey, one of compassion, respect, and dignity.
In lieu of a funeral service, the family invites you to honor Deb by hanging a hummingbird feeder at your home next May, or by contributing a donation to St. Paul’s Palliative Care in Deb’s memory.
