While a search for the stars usually entails keeping your eye trained skyward, locals hoping to find stars of the musical variety will be at the E.A Rawlinson Centre this Sunday.

SaskTel’s Search for the Stars is about to have it’s 2020 incarnation.

“We’ll have literally everything. We’ve got musical theatre, country, rap, some R&B as well as some original music,” Cara Stelmaschuk, the marketing and event co-ordinator for the E.A. Rawlinson Centre told paNOW.

Performers from the age of five, all the way to 18 will take to the stage for cash prizes as well as the opportunity to win a recording session. According to Stelmaschuk though, the young artists are able to take part in something much more valuable.

“It’s more than just getting through and getting to the showcase and winning those prizes, we’re actually giving them a full day workshop,” which took place on Jan. 12, she noted.

During the workshop, performers spent quality time with judges, Roland Corrigal a Saskatchewan Country Music Artist who holds a number of accolades in his music career as well Gabrielle Giroux. Giroux from Prince Albert and a former winner of Search for the Stars, went onto to be a part of the all-female rock band The Wolfe.

“Getting to spend time with the judges was an invaluable prize for everyone to win,” Stelmaschuk said.

One Prince Albert teen who is sure to impress at the event is Rebecca Strong. Strong gained viral fame after one of her videos passed the one million mark on Facebook.

The event kicks off at 7:30 p.m., tickets are available for purchase at the door.
