Optimist Club buys $10,000 in laptops for Westview School
Some new technology will soon be in the hands of students at Westview School, thanks to a project by the Optimist Club of Prince Albert.
Working to fulfil their motto of ‘Bringing out the best in Kids’, the club recently purchased 25 Chromebook laptops worth over $10,000 for students in Grades 3 to 5. Spokesperson and member George Lewko said the computers will be a boon for students in the classroom.
“The classrooms really respond well to this where they may not to other things,” he said. “It feels a lot more personal having your own computer to interact with.”
The students use a program called Google Classroom, which Lewko said the laptops will allow students to access and share files with each other and the teacher, as well as lend the opportunity to attend class from home if they fall ill.
