PBCN urban members to head to polls for byelection

Jun 21, 2018 | 12:00 PM

The dates have been set and posters have been printed for the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation’s urban byelection.

An appeal hearing was held earlier this month into the urban riding, which overturned the results from the March general election for the urban councillor position. Candidate nomination meetings are slated to be held July 3 at 7 p.m. at the Senator Allen Bird Memorial Gymnasium. Anyone who is considering running for the urban council seat is required to have a criminal record check ready as soon as possible.

Peter Ballantyne band members in La Ronge and Saskatoon will have one opportunity to cast their vote in the byelection Tuesday, July 17 at the Kikanak Friendship Centre and the Ramada Hotel and Golf Dome respectively.

Members in Prince Albert will also have an opportunity to cast their vote. Advance polling takes place Tuesday, July 17 at the Senator Allen Bird Memorial Gymnasium.

All advanced poll stations open at 11 a.m. and will remain open until 8 p.m. at each location.

On Tuesday, July 24, the general polls will take place at the Senator Allen Bird Memorial Gymnasium between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. There will be no voting stations in La Ronge or Saskatoon during the general poll day.

Head Electoral Officer Randy Clarke, who oversaw the general elections, will resume his duties during the urban byelection, according to information issued by the Cree Nation.
