The Rose Garden Hospice is finishing out 2019 strong.

Thursday afternoon at their Gateway Mall location the fundraising committee received a $25,000 donation from Joe and Bev Remai.

Joe explained the couple were motivated to contribute after doing some research and learning about the facility and the services it would provide.

“There’s two things that are certain in life, death and taxes, and we thought what a beautiful way to leave the world, if you have to leave the world,” he said.

Joe said he and Bev got the opportunity to learn more about the hospice when they got to speak to representatives from the organization at a hockey game.

Currently the fundraising committee for the hospice has raised nearly $2 million to help build the facility. Organizers are looking to raise $4 million to build the facility and the provincial government has committed to providing money to run it once it opens.

Bev Remai said while it is good the committee is getting closer to its goal, it is important people think about giving. She added this is part of why the two decided to publicize their contribution, which they wouldn’t normally do.

“I think it’s really exciting, but I think that sometimes that holds people off, so I think we can get over three quarters done then it’s really something,” she said.
