Food bank game set to tip off tomorrow

Dec 17, 2019 | 2:16 PM

An annual tradition is set to continue tomorrow evening at Carlton Comprehensive High School.

The host Carlton Crusaders will be taking on their local rivals, the École St. Mary Marauders in the annual food bank game. For the game, fans are being asked to bring a non-perishable food item to donate to the Prince Albert and District Food Bank.

Carlton senior boys basketball coach Tim Strom said people coming out this year will be treated to a pair of games.

“This is the first year we’ve had a double header having the girls involved,” he said.

Strom said the game plays a role in the school promoting the importance of giving to students. In past years, the game has led to the school gathering a few boxes of food. Strom added by putting on the extra game they are hoping for a better haul.

“We can hopefully double our totals, that we bring down,” he said.

Strom said part of the tradition caps off with the basketball team’s seniors taking the donations down to the food bank the following day.

Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m. at Carlton with the girls teams playing first. The senior boys are set to get going at 7 p.m.
