Weekend fire not suspicious

A weekend house fire in Prince Albert has been found to be accidental.

Firefighters were called to a home on the 1500 block of Macintosh Drive Sunday. No one was injured but there was damage to the inside of the house.

Deputy Fire Chief Alex Paul said it is important residents make sure they have smoke alarms in their homes, and be in good working order. This was the case this past weekend.

“There were working smoke detectors, and everybody got out of the house safely,” he said.

Paul said while the fire Sunday was not caused by anything related to the holiday season, people should keep certain things in mind during this time of year. This includes keeping any natural Christmas trees watered and not leaving tree lights on when no one is at home.

The deputy chief added people lighting candles or making use of fire places should also take precautions.

“Make sure that those are extinguished before you leave your residence,” he said.
