Police warn of scams targeting elderly

Dec 7, 2019 | 3:52 PM

The Prince Albert Police Service are warning the public about confidence scams directed at the elderly in the city.

According to a media release from the police, there was a report of a fraud this week. An elderly woman received numerous phone calls from a man named Peter. Over the span of all the calls the man eventually convinced the lady to loan him $1,000. He pressured the woman by promising her $1 million.

She sent a blank Canada Post money order to a United States post office.

The police are worried other elderly residents in Prince Albert may be victims of this scam and urge people to never send money to an unknown person or place without confirming the details of the person receiving the money. Police said promises of receiving a larger sum of money in return should be a major warning sign.
