Christmas Tree Harvest at PA National Park

Dec 5, 2019 | 10:28 AM

Parks Canada invites local residents to harvest a Christmas tree from the Waskesiu Community Fuel Break (CFB) until December 24.

Start a new family tradition and help protect Waskesiu from potential wildfires during this fun event!

Bring a handsaw, sleigh and a thermos of hot chocolate to keep you warm while you search for the perfect Christmas tree. Christmas Tree Harvest permits are available free of charge from the Visitor Centre where park passes can also be purchased.

A valid park pass is required for this activity, however admission is free for youth 17 and under to all Parks Canada’s places including Prince Albert National Park.

Beginning in December, visitors to Waskesiu may observe wildfire risk reduction operations in action in the Waskesiu townsite.

Although the Community Fuel Break surrounds the Waskesiu townsite, pockets of mature, unmanaged, and densely grouped spruce trees and underbrush could pose a risk to infrastructure within the townsite in the event of a wildfire.

Parks Canada takes wildfire preparedness, including risk reduction activities, very seriously and is taking preventative measures to reduce the risk of wildfires to the Waskesiu townsite and neighbouring communities.
