Fire bans in effect this long weekend

May 21, 2011 | 11:46 AM

A fire ban is still on the Prince Albert and La Ronge areas.

The ban, issued by the provincial government, includes provincial parks such as Emma Lake and Candle Lake.

Self-contained heating devices, pressurized stoves or charcoal briquettes used in a Ministry of Environment approved firebox are allowed for cooking or heating purposes.

Open fires are prohibited and all burning permits are currently suspended.

“Our fine fuels are in the extreme range so any spark, a cigarette unattended, … with any kind of wind would spread very quickly will catch people off guard,” said Brent Krayetski, provincial wild land fire coordinator with the Ministry of Environment, explaining it doesn’t take much to start a large fire in these conditions.

The province will issue a public notification when the ban ends.

If you do spot fire phone the Fire Watch number at 1-800-667-9660.
