A Prince Albert swimmer broke two provincial records during a meet in Edmonton on the weekend.

Joy Friesen of the Prince Albert Sharks Swim Club traveled to Edmonton for the “Twas The Month Before Christmas” Masters swim meet Nov.17 at the Kinsmen Centre. Twelve clubs from Alberta and Saskatchewan participated in this swim meet.

Friesen, a master swimmer with the Sharks, broke the provincial record in the 25-metre freestyle event in the 50-54 age category, with a time of 16.09 seconds. The old record had been in place for more than 20 years! Friesen also broke the provincial record in the 25-metre backstroke, beating a record she already held.

“We are pleased with our Masters swimmers’ results and performance,” said head coach Hazem Hussein. “Way to go, Sharks!”
