It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Adolph on September 23, 2010. Adolph was born on July 26, 1920 at Honeymoon, SK. He attended Podole School at Honeymoon, SK. In 1942 at a young age of 21, Adolph was called to Army duty at Regina, SK. In June 1942 he was transferred to Vernon, BC. 1943 – 1945 he was stationed at Prince Rupert, BC and various other points on the West Coast. In the fall of 1945 he came home on leave, and in 1946 was discharged from the Army. On October 20, 1946, Adolph married Jean (Hryhor) and there they farmed the original Pawlyshyn homestead at Honeymoon. Adolph was active in the Church and community. He served as President of the St. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church at Honeymoon, Secretary of the Honeymoon Community Hall and Secretary/Treasurer of the Honeymoon Cemetery. He assisted as a church elder, both at Honeymoon and Prince Albert. In 2009 he was awarded a “Hromota” or a certificate of devotion awarded by the Ukrainian Orthodox Metropolitan. In 1978 Adolph and Jean moved to Prince Albert. He continued to help at the farm, and participated in Church activities and the Ukrainian Orthodox Men’s Club. He enjoyed curling, bowling and was always willing to help. Adolph is survived by his wife Jean of 64 years; his daughter Sylvia (Adam) Kosowan & their children Jason, Tyler (Jennifer Isbister) and Jaret Kosowan; his son Robert (Janice) & their children Ron (Treena), Jennifer (Shane) Gruber and Leanne Pawlyshyn; Adolph’s two special family members, his great granddaughters Katie Gruber and Sara Pawylyshyn; his sisters-in-law Pauline Pawlyshyn, Sophie Krakowetz and Pauline Hryhor; his brother-in-law Tony Borysko and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Andrew and Domka (1973) Pawlyshyn; his in-laws Onufry and Rose Hryhor; his brothers Mike and Walter (Mary); his sisters Olga (Harry), Jane (Frank) and Mary (John) and his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Frank (Ann), Peter, John (Jean), Ann (John), Mary (Adolph) and Katie. Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 26, 2010 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th West, Prince Albert, SK with Reverend Father Michael Lomaszkiewicz officiating. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 27, 2010 at the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 305 – 6th Street East, Prince Albert, SK with Reverend Father Michael Lomaszkiewicz officiating. Interment will be held at South Hill Cemetery. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 54 – 11th Street East, Prince Albert, SK S6V 0Z9. Officers and Members of the Royal Canadian Legion will confer Veterans Honours. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca.
