The family of Charles Louis Balicki announces his passing on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at the age of 75 years with his family by his side. Charlie leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 50 years Doreen (nee Welch); his children Lynn Balicki (Alex Hofmann) of North Battleford, Joanne (Larry) McWillie) of Naicam, Charlotte (Al) Vera of Meath Park, Maureen (Joe) Bencic of Brantford, ON; his grandchildren Richard, Mandy and Charles Clapper, Maryann, Shane and Jennifer McWillie, Savanna and Dylan Vera, Rachel and Alex Bencic; his great-grandchildren Mason, Cole, Caleb, Nicholas, Cecily; his brothers John Balicki of Prince Albert and Tony (Sally) Balicki of Kelowna, BC; his sister Helen (Jim Thompson) of Saskatoon, as well as nieces, nephews and other extended family members and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Sophia (nee Walski) Balicki; his sister-in-law Joy Balicki. Charlie was born at Fir Ridge, SK and grew up on the farm and enjoyed a love of fiddle music, family and good-natured jokes and pranks. In 1959 he met and married his wife Doreen and they started their life on the farm building their future. In 1965 Dad and Mom made the decision to sell the farm and go into business. They bought the MacDowall Hotel and became a large part of the community and made many life long friendships. In 1973 they sold the hotel and moved to Kelowna, BC. In 1975 they moved to Naicam and operated the Naicam Café. They sold it in 1981 and moved to Prince Albert and semi-retired. They made Prince Albert their home and renewed old acquaintances and made many new friends and enjoyed retirement until the time of his passing. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 4 from River Park Memorial Chapel. Pastor Dennis Serfas will officiate. Interment will take place at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens.
