April 20, 1917 – August 22, 2010
It is with extreme sadness that the Maloff family announces the passing of Nicolai “Nick” Nicolovich Maloff on Sunday, August 22, 2010 at the age of 93 at the Herb Bassett Nursing Home. Nick is survived by his wife Mildred (nee Konkin); his sons Wallace Wayne Maloff (Debbie) of Victoria, BC and Moreley James Maloff (Bretta) of Calgary, AB. Nick’s love of family resulted in a 68-year marriage to Mildred. He was predeceased by his parents Nicolai Malov in 1966 and Hanya Baresinkova in 1982; his brother John Mallo of Prince Albert; his sisters Helen Hamilton of Lesleyville, AB and Pauline Banert of Calgary, AB. Nick’s education and nurturing began in Yorkton, SK and continued on to Riverhill District and Prince Albert. This journey from Yorkton to Prince Albert instilled in Nick a love of respect for all people; a continuous desire to better oneself and to unselfishly pass his experience and knowledge on to other people without seeking personal gain or acknowledgement. Nick’s passionate involvement in unionism, music and photography further broadened and strengthened his stature as a mature and caring individual. But above all, Nick’s responsibly and dedication to family trumped all other aspirations and accomplishments. Nick also developed and upheld a moral and societal code that at times challenged the existing norms. It is a testament of Nick’s courage that he embraced unpopular stances. Nick’s diverse career encompassed working in the following: a quality control technician at Glass Dairies; an aircraft mechanic and test mechanic for the Commonwealth Flight Training program (WW 2 effort); an aircraft mechanic for Saskatchewan Government Airways and a mechanical and electrical technician including a team lead role for Saskatchewan Department of Highways from which he retired in 1982. There is little doubt that family and friends believe and know that Nick’s contributions and presence left this world a better place. Family and friends are welcome to visit with Mildred and her family from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday, August 27 in the Arbor Lounge at River Park Memorial Chapel. A“Celebration of Life” will be conducted by Mr. Maurice Postnikoff starting at 2:00 p.m. Family and friends are asked to enter through the south doors from the parking lot. Interment of cremated remains will take place in River Hill Cemetery. It is the family’s request that those wishing to provide donations may do so to the Herb Bassett Nursing Home, Lakeland Trail Pod or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Family and friends may send email condolences to www.riverparkfuneral.ca. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Colette Kadziolka at RIVER PARK MEMORIAL CHAPEL. 764-2727
