Alberta Irene “Betty” Reid (nee Hunley) It is with great sadness that the family of Betty Reid announces her passing. Betty, beloved Mother and Grandmother slipped away peacefully at Good Shepherd Villa in Prince Albert on October 21, 2010. Betty was born in Hanna, AB on July 29, 1923. She was the ninth of eleven children born to James and Esta Hunley. The family moved several times always to improve the standard of living and to seek education for the children. Betty's parents were poor, but the family thrived through difficult times. At one time the Hunley children attended a “private school” of six students consisting of family and two neighbour kids. The school headmistress was Betty's older sister Dot. The family eventually moved to the Rocky Mountain House area which became their home, where Betty graduated from high school. Betty joined the Air Force in 1941 and while stationed in Ontario met and fell in love with Stan Reid. They married in 1949. Betty and Stan raised three children, Robin, Erin and Christopher, while Stan pursued his Air force career in France and throughout Canada from Vancouver Island to Cape Breton. Each and every move was an opportunity to learn and through Mom's positive approach we looked forward to exploring some new part of the world. Following retirement from his last station in Dana, Stan and Betty settled in Prince Albert, in 1970. After moving to Prince Albert, Betty worked in the furniture business and was active with the Girl Guides and Brownies. Betty cherished life, nature, and learning about the world around her. She loved to travel and to share experiences with friends and family. She enjoyed playing bridge. Betty's warm and loving nature along with her sense of humour endeared her to friends and family alike. Her grandchildren were a delight, their relationship special to her and to them. On the day following her death, her sister Helen Hunley also died. Betty is survived by her son Robin of Calgary, AB; her daughter Erin (Denton) Yeo; her grandchildren Amanda Reid of Calgary, AB, Jared, Julian (Krista Evanisky) and Connor Yeo and her brother Ken Hunley (Dorothy Johnson) of Red Deer, AB. She was predeceased by her husband Stan; her son Christopher and daughter-in-law Pamela Reid. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at Wesley United Church, 65 – 11th Street East, Prince Albert, SK with Reverend Tony Thompson officiating.
