It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Richard V. Cassidy, which occurred on Wednesday, October 27th, 2010 at the age of 85 years. Richard was born in 1925 in Prince Albert, SK. He was predeceased by his loving wife Doris of 45 years in 1992; his father John Francis Cassidy; his mother Margaret (nee Hogan) Cassidy; his two sisters Pearl Cassidy and Marge Gotchie; his two brothers Tom Cassidy and Joe Cassidy. He is survived by his brother Cyril Cassidy of Calgary, AB; his two sons Clark (Bev) Cassidy, Jim (Donna) Cassidy; his three daughters Blanche Cassidy, Heather (Leon) Zelensky and Alana (Patty Tetreault) Cassidy; his seven grandchildren Chad Cassidy, Wade Cassidy (Thea), Mathew Cassidy, Britney Cassidy, Sarah Cassidy, Angela Zelensky and Brett Zelensky; his two great-grandchildren Ethan Cassidy and Declan Cassidy; his sister-in-law Alice Scobie and his numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his special friend Katie Miller and all his coffee buddies who met at Smitty’s Restaurant every afternoon. Richard spent most of his working life working for Thorpe Brothers Ltd. He really enjoyed working for Thorpe’s and he took great pride in his chosen career and his accomplishments. He retired in 1990. After his wife Doris passed away, Richard took great pride in looking after his own general health and was an avid reader of any papers or articles he could find on medical health. He especially enjoyed watching the doctor shows most recently on television and he had a vast array of knowledge on just about every topic including health issues and global affairs. Richard loved to work in his vegetable and flower garden and in his later life he especially enjoyed working in his flower garden. Our father was a man of strong morals, honesty, integrity and love of family. He had a deep spiritual faith, was open minded and accepting of others. Richard’s Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 3rd from River Park Memorial Chapel – 301 River Street West. Interment will take place in the Garden of Christus, Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. It is the family’s request that donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Family and friends may send email condolences to www.riverparkfuneral.ca. Serenity Prayer
God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can
and the wisdom to know the difference.
