May 19, 1941 – December 17, 2010
On December 17, 2010 Dad passed away surrounded by his children and joined his beloved soul mate of 40 years, Paulette. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 22 from River Park Memorial Chapel – 301 River Street West. Left to cherish Hank's memory are his daughters Darlene Nikolaisen (John Dalke) of Prince Albert, Kimberly Umpherville (Jarrod Coates) of Prince Albert, Angel Wheeler of Standard, AB, Marilyn (Derrick) Hepting of Calgary, AB, Marcia (Ricardo) Mirasty of meadow Lake, SK; his sons Jaret (Carrie) Nikolaisen of Prince Albert, Regan Nikolaisen of Alberta, Cary (Tammy) Nikolaisen of Kelowna, BC; his numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sisters Kris (Walter) Wawro of Prince Albert, Beatrice (Frank) Ruszkowski of Prince Albert, Anne (Ed) Dmyterko of Prince Albert, Cherry (Bob) Neil of Prince Albert; his brother Bill (Pam) Mikolaisen of Saskatoon; his numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Paulette Umpherville-Nikolaisen; his parents Peter and Maude Nikolaisen; his brothers Neil Nikolaisen and Arnold “Bill” Bayley; his son-in-law Keri Wheeler; his parents-in-law Walter Sr. and Verna Umpherville; his sisters-in-law Donalda Umpherville and Myra Umpherville; his nephews Kelly Dmyterko and Wayne Nikolaisen. Dad left the family farm at a young age and began his lifelong career in Trucking and Heavy Equipment Operator. Dad was very proud of being one of the first people to work in the farthest north of the Arctic and prepare for employment and habitation. Dad still had his Class 1A Endorsement at his passing, which gave him a sense of pride and purpose. Dad had 4 beautiful children from his first relationship. In 1969, Dad met and fell in love with Paulette Umpherville and had 3 children together. Dad's children and grandchildren were always of main importance and a strong sense of pride and will be devastatingly missed by us all. Dad was known for being a fighter and never one to back down and remained so until his last days. It is the family's request that donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
