Lorne Leroy Stark was born July 8, 1924 in Frontier Saskatchewan to parents Arthur and Amanda Stark. Lorne was the fifth of nine children. He attended school at Frontier, Saskatchewan, before the family moved to White Fox, Saskatchewan and he attended the Pinehurst School northeast of White Fox. Not one to be left behind Lorne followed his older brothers and joined the army at the age of 17. After the required basic training, Lorne Leroy Stark of the Essex Scottish Regiment left pier 21, Halifax, Nova Scotia on April 10, 1944 aboard the SS Empress of Scotland, bound for Liverpool, England. Lorne was wounded in France in 1944 and spent time recovering in England and back in Canada before being discharged in August of 1945. Bound by train from Regina to Love, Saskatchewan, Lorne was heading home to surprise his sister Leola and her husband Dave Paulson with his return. Lorne thought he would crawl through the outside wood-box into the inside to surprise Leola. However; Lorne was the one to be surprised as Leola and Dave had sold their home while Lorne was away. This was the first time Lorne met his future wife. Lorne Stark and Marion Goodwin were married on July 14, 1946, in Fairy Glen, Saskatchewan. On August 15, 1947, Lorne and Marion were blessed with the first of their four sons, Leslie Lorne Stark. Lenard Marion Stark was born on April 30, 1949, Linden Gerald Stark was born October 14, 1952, and Lowell Douglas Stark on August 16, 1957. Lorne enjoyed his grandchildren thoroughly and always welcomed a visit from them at anytime. Lorne never felt that family was an imposition, but an opportunity. Lorne had nine grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and extended family. Lorne had many careers; he worked in the local sawmill, he drove semi and gravel truck and he was a commissionaire at Squaw Rapids Hydro Electric Dam before completing 23 years in the Public Service at Waskesiu in the Prince Albert National Park; where he was also a member of the volunteer Fire Department. Lorne retired in 1987, at the age of 62, and returned to Nipawin, Saskatchewan. During his retirement, Lorne was very active with the local senior centre and loved to play pool, shuffleboard and crib. Lorne was never too busy to play a game or two of crib with anyone who asked. Lorne remained here in Nipawin, Saskatchewan, until he passed away peacefully at the Nipawin Hospital, on January 4, 2011, with his family at his side. Now at this time we would like to say good-bye to Lorne Leroy Stark; our friend, our uncle, our brother, our great grand-father, our grand-father, and our father who is in heaven!
