Florence Clara Margaret (McKay) Wicker
It is with great sadness to announce that our mother “Clara Wicker” passed away with some family by her side on Sunday morning February 13, 2011 in Prince Albert, SK at the age of 101 years. She was born February 2, 1910, the oldest of 7 siblings all of whom predeceased her. Mom spent most of her life in Prince Albert, married Walter Hamilton McKay in 1928, who died January 6, 1944.
They had moved to Paddockwood, SK in 1942 and had 9 children; 2 girls and 7 boys. Two girls: Ada died in 1995; Iona died in 1997, 4 boys: Wilfred died in 1937, Hugh died in 1988, Norman died in 1999 and Walter died in 2010, predeceased their Mom. She married Roy Wicker in 1948 and had one son Robert in 1949. When they moved back to Prince Albert, Roy died on February 8, 1986. Lovingly remembered by her 4 surviving sons: James “Jim” (Joyce) McKay, Bill (Shirley) McKay, Chuck (Evelyn) McKay and Robert (Marlyn) Wicker; 2 daughters-in-law: Marleen (the late Norm) McKay of Redcliff AB, and Doreen (the late Walter) McKay of Prince Albert; nephew: Bob (Shirley) Cooke was always there for her and were with her to the end. Mom is remembered by 33 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren and 23 great-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews all of whom she loved very much.
Mom was born into a musical family where all could play different instruments, and they entertained family and friends for miles around. She experienced the roaring 20’s, the Great Depression, and the 2nd World War. Like most, they didn’t have much in monetary value, but she had her family which she devoted all her time to. She travelled Western Canada mostly to visit her family as well as Toronto and Florida to visit her only sister that was left. Mom was usually at home for all of us.
Mom was admitted to Mont St. Joseph Home on January 24, 2008. We extend our sincere appreciation to the nurses and staff who treated her with so much compassion and care. Dr. Bwana of the Community Clinic, Dr. Moodley, Orthopedic Surgeon, the nurses and staff of Victoria Hospital, to all we thank you.
