NELSON-Velma Jeanette, late of Saskatoon, SK formerly of Prince Albert, SK. Beloved mother and grandmother passed away peacefully in the early hours on February 22, 2011 four days short of her 91st birthday. Mom was born in Loreburn, SK on February 26, 1920 and moved to Meskanaw at an early age, with her family. She was an avid sportsman, as an athlete she participated in softball and curling and in her later years, also was an avid Raider supporter and billet. Mom was a private, proud caregiver that always had a meal, cup of tea and danties for anyone who visited. Her greatest enjoyment was having her family visiting in the living room while she busied herself in the kitchen, listening to the conversations taking place. She always made sure they had their special baked treat when they visited. Travels and gardening were also dear to mom's heart. In Meskanaw she met her husband, Bud and moved to Mossbank for a short period and returned to Meskanaw where they were postmasters for 9 years. In 1956, they moved to Prince Albert where she worked at the YMCA and after worked at the Victoria Hospital Dietary Department until her retirement in 1985. Velma is survived by her 3 sons: Doug (Gail); Gord (Helen) and Don (Jan); her 7 grandchildren: Todd (Josette); Kerri (Kent); Jeff (Jessica); Desiree; Dallas (Brian); Erica (Bryce) and Sheena; her 6 great-grandchildren: Colton, Kyleigh, Abigail, Eliza, Sara and Ciera; as well as her step-grandchildren: Julie, Ismael, Kyla and Logan Segovia; Ryan, Mia and Sarah Mills and Kenedi Brunen.
