Lloyd Lenard Lundgren

It is with deep sadness that his family announces the death of Lloyd Lenard Lundgren, 82, on Friday, February 25, 2011, at the Victoria Hospital after a short illness. Beloved husband and partner for more than 50 years to Eveline (nee Nellist); loving father of daughter June; sons John (special friend Deborah Ethier) and Kevin (Maria nee Cedraz) of Prince Albert and Ian (special friend Christine Pyra) of Saskatoon; devoted grandfather of Levon, Joni and Maxwel, all of Prince Albert. Lloyd is also survived by his brother Helmar of Holbein; his sisters Alice (Walter) Brown of Tisdale, Ina Skiftun of McDowall, Nancy Meeds of St. Albert, AB and Margaret (John) Gariepy of Prince Albert; his wife's brother Robert (Rev. Canon Valerie nee Gregson) of Edinburgh, Scotland and his wife's sisters Betty Whitaker of Hartlepool, England, Helen Rabour (John Simpson) of Kelso, Scotland and Ruth (Tony) Housden of Aboyne, Scotland; his aunts Ellen Goranson of Melfort and Annie Johnson of Prince Albert and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, both in Canada and Sweden. Will also be warmly remembered by his extended family of friends he met through the various pursuits he was passionate about. Predeceased by his parents Johan and Minnie (nee Johnson) Lundgren, father and mother-in-law George and Elizabeth Ivy (nee Linfoot) Nellist and stepmother-in-law Millicent (nee Wickman) Nellist; sister-in- law Janet (nee Holtom) Lundgren; brother-in-law Fred Whitaker and nephew Jason Meeds. Lloyd was born February 19, 1929 in Snowden, SK. He was schooled at home with his siblings, by his mother. In 1945, he began working for the Department of Natural Resources, operating heavy duty equipment for both fire protection and the development of Candle Lake resort, the Hanson Lake and other roads that opened up the north. This led to a career as a Journeyman mechanic and welder. In 1975 he became an Equipment Officer with the Department of Northern Saskatchewan, eventually taking early retirement from the Department of Highways in 1985. Lloyd was an avid hunter and competitive shooter with an enduring love of the outdoors. He was a founding member of the Prince Albert Fish and Game League/Wildlife Federation and was instrumental in establishing a local Hunter Safety program, which became a model for the present day certification. He worked tirelessly to procure and develop local ranges for competitive target shooting disciplines. Lloyd served many terms as President of the Prince Albert Pistol and Rifle Club and was awarded a Life membership in both the Pistol and Rifle Club and the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation, in recognition of many years of dedicated service. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 4, 2011 at St. David’s Anglican Church, 500 – 24th Street East, Prince Albert, SK with The Reverend Norbert Haukenfrers officiating. Interment will be held at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation's Habitat Trust Conservation program, or SWF's Conservation Camp Education program, or Charity of donor's choice.
