The school was expanded in 1975 to become Carlton Comprehensive High School and Clayton taught at Carlton from 1975 until his retirement in 1989. In 1987 Clayton & Shirley built their retirement home in Spruce Home where they reside. While in Prince Albert, Clayton was very involved in the Wildlife Federation and served both in the construction of the current Prince Albert building and as the branch president for two terms. He and Shirley ran the conservation school at the wildlife building for three summers. Clayton loved fishing, hunting and spending summers at their cabin at La Ronge with family. After his retirement, they traveled extensively with their fifth-wheel trailer, making several trips to Alaska.
