With sadness we announce the death of Dennis Eugene Barrie Anderson, on March 9, 2011 at Prince Albert, SK, succumbing to the progressive disease of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder. Dennis was predeceased by his father Eugene Anderson. He is survived by his loving mother Gracie Anderson; brother Don Anderson; sister Gail Syverson; daughters Tricia Knight and Corrine (Erich) Lewand; sons Scott Anderson, Gary (Elizabeth) Anderson and Dale (Trina) Anderson; grandchildren Michelle Anderson, Vanessa and Vincent Knight, Heather, Isaac and Ingrid Lewand, Juliet Anderson and a large extended family. As well, Dennis was blessed to find happiness with his girlfriend Terry Bruno for the last five years. Born April 18, 1940 at Naicam, SK, Dennis was the eldest child and spent his formative years in rural Saskatchewan where his passion for the outdoors was kindled. Having earned his teaching certificate in Saskatoon, he lived and taught in various small communities including Denare Beach, SK and Aklavik, North West Territories. His second career path was certification as a plumber and gas fitter, working for Syncrude in Ft. McMurray, AB until his retirement in 1998. Dennis had an enormous range of interests and hobbies, especially enjoying fishing, hunting and canoeing, often with his young sons. As usual he brought his meticulous nature and intelligence to the task and became a serious and highly skilled sportsman. In later years, although his health declined, he continued to cherish happy times spent in natural surroundings with his daughter Tricia, her children, and other family members at Gail’s cabin on Emma Lake. He explored and expanded on his love of quieter pursuits as he struggled to maintain his independence and fight his battle against COPD. Music, literature, crossword puzzles, social and political issues were a few of his interests and he was able to keep his window on the world wide open with his skills in computer technology and communication. His sharp wit and finely tuned sense of humour served him well throughout his lifetime, and continued to buoy his family during his illness. Dennis spent his final days surrounded by Terry and his loving family. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK with Reverend Nora Vedress officiating. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to the Lung Association of Saskatchewan, 1231 – 8th Street East, Saskatoon, SK S7H 0S5. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray's Funeral Chapel, Lorne Adams, Funeral Director.
