Larry Marcotte late of Prince Albert passed away Sunday, April 24, 2011 at home with friends and family around him, after 18 months of struggling with cancer. He is with his Maker and no longer in pain. He was 52 years old and leaves behind a large legacy of love and fellowship. Larry will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his wife Allison (nee Hicks) of 23 years of marriage; their five daughters Lise (Lonny Soles and children Lee, Mathew, Dominic, Emily, Jacqueline and Katelynn) of Weyburn, Joan (Craig Davies and daughter Jade) of Weyburn, Mandi (Andrew Cloak and daughter Cassidy) of Prince Albert, Wendy and Rebecca of Prince Albert; his parents Roger and Marie Marcotte of Torquay; his brothers Arnold (Christa) Marcotte of Torquay, David (Loretta) Marcotte of Davidson; his sisters Bernice (Bruce) Friedrick of Torquay, Denise (Ken) Frederick of Regina and Anita (Bill) Duncan of Moose Jaw; his in-laws Wayne and Sharon Hicks of Prince Albert, Roy (Holly) Hicks of Lumsden, Rob Hicks of White Fox and his sister-in-law Judy (Jerry) Anderson of Prince Albert; as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Larry was born in Estevan, the oldest of six children and raised on a farm in Torquay. He had many jobs in his lifetime but two of his favorite were his counseling position at the Salvation Army and his time at the Detox Centre in Regina. He loved helping people. Larry’s last job was that of Correctional Officer at the Saskatchewan Federal Penitentiary for the last 14 years. His love for the human spirit made his job easy at times and very difficult at others. Larry was a family man first, program man second, a true outdoorsman third and a true card player. He loved being a husband, father, grandfather and friend. Larry was always quick to point out how lucky he was to have such a wonderful family and was always adding to his circle of friends. The door to his home was always open to anyone in need of a laugh, a cry, a coffee, a listener or an advisor. His dedication to passing on the message of AA has left a profound impact on many people and will be long lasting. Larry was passionate about the outdoors and the adventure hunting and fishing brought him. He found true peace being surrounded by God’s creation. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to all those involved in the health care profession who contributed along the way. A special thanks to Flo in helping us to keep him comfortable and at home in his last week. Friends wishing to pay respects may do so at a Public Visitation at 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, May 2 at River Park Memorial Chapel. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3 from the Spruce Home Activity Centre (formerly Trail Riders Arena located 20 km north of Prince Albert on Highway 2) Pastor Bob Leeson will officiate. A private family interment of cremated remains will be held at a later date.
