Floyd Soles
Floyd Edward Soles suddenly passed away on May 7, 2011 at the age of 84, at the Victoria Hospital. Floyd was born February 15, 1927 at his homestead in Briarlea.
Floyd leaves many loved ones behind to cherish his memories: including his seven children Donald, Donna (Larry), Bev, Wanda (Ron) McKay, Dale (Karlee), Christina (Trevor) and Samantha Soles; his brothers and sisters Lawrence (Phyllis), Mildred (Ken) Howat, Shirley (Archie) Tichkowsky, Fred (Brenda) and Wayne (Linda) Soles; as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and countless friends.
Floyd was predeceased by his parents Samuel and Mable Soles; his first wife Helen and his brother Samuel Soles.
As a young man, Floyd left the farm in Briarlea to join the Canadian Armed Forces, stationed in Winnipeg. He was sent to Germany, but not before marrying Helen (Clarke) in 1954. Floyd and Helen left Germany in 1955 and moved to Saskatchewan, where Floyd started working in Waskesiu as a Heavy Equipment Operator from 1957-1961. He then moved around the province working as a Police Officer in East End and Shellbrook from 1961-1967. His Heavy Equipment Operating career continued in P.O.T.T.S. Construction, ASL Paving and the RM of Shellbrook from 1967 until his retirement in 1992. Floyd remarried in 1982 to Barb Schloegel and moved to Holbein shortly after. He later moved to Prince Albert where he lived with his son Donald until his passing.
When Floyd wasn’t working to provide for his family, he enjoyed the great outdoors. He loved fishing, hunting and camping with his family. Floyd was a man who cared deeply for others; he was always there to talk or to lend a helping hand. He would never miss an opportunity to go for coffee and have a chat. There is no doubt that one of his favorite things to do was to go for drives in his van. He loved it when family came to visit and he got to spend time with his grandchildren, as he always loved kids. Floyd was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
Floyd’s Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 12, 2011 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK with celebrant Val Bodnaryk.
