MARY BEATRICE BUTTON (nee Smith)
1913 – 2011
Mary Button went peacefully on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at the age of 98 years.
Mary was born on February 24, 1913 in Duval, SK and went to school in Viscount, SK. She met her husband Wilbur Button in Prince Albert and they were married on March 2, 1937 in Viscount, SK. They later moved to Nipawin and then to Prince Albert in 1952. Wilbur and Mary were active farmers and were musically talented. Mary’s other hobbies included quilting, knitting, card playing, sewing, puzzles and gardening. After Wilbur passed away in 1988, Mary lived on her own until she was 95. She spent the last 3 years living at Mont St. Joseph Care Home.
Mary is survived by her children Elsie (Ken) Akre, Lynda (Jerry) Akre, Reg (Barb) and Elaine (Ray) Iskra; 12 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; her sister Alice Townley-McKay; her brother-in-law & her many sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents Henry and Mary Smith; her son Bryce in 1951; her husband Wilbur; her 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 17 from River Park Memorial Chapel. Reverend Darren Wooff will officiate. Interment will be held in the Garden of the Old Rugged Cross, Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. In lieu of other tributes memorial donations can be made to Mont St. Joseph Foundation – 777-28th Street East, Prince Albert, SK S6V 8C2.
