STELLA NANCY DURSTON
March 3, 1924
May 19, 2011
87 years
It is with great sadness that we, her family, announce the passing of our Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and Great-Great-Grandmother, Stella Durston.
Stella was born to Emma and Robert Fiddler and was left without a mother when she was still an infant. She was raised by her grandparents and when she was 16 she gave birth to a little girl of her own Emma Marie. She raised Emma until she married her husband, William “Bill” Durston who later adopted Emma as his own; they also had a son William. She later divorced her husband and met Tom Fidler in 1958 and they had two children Valerie and William “Sonny”. They farmed at Lily Plain for the first few years they were together and later moved to Prince Albert in the summer of 1966. It was here that mom started working as a chambermaid for the Flamingo Motel and later worked at the Coronet Motor Hotel. She enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. She would cook up a big pot of soup, bake a couple of bannock and feed her company. Her favorite card game was cribbage and she also loved playing bingo, picking berries, camping and picnicking. Many evenings and weekends were spent with family and friends. In late 1994 she was a passenger in a car accident that pretty much left her in a wheelchair. She lost the love of her life, Tom, in January of 2003. Then in May of the same year she suffered a fall from her wheelchair and was in the hospital for a few months. She was then moved to the Herb Bassett Nursing Home where she resided for about a month until she moved to Pineview Terrace Lodge and lived there until her passing.
She leaves to mourn her passing her daughters Emma Durston (Irving) and Valerie Fidler (Don Robbie) and two sons William “Bill” Durston and William “Sonny” Fidler (Marilyn Deschambault) as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; her sisters Christie Crane and Mary Pelly; her brothers George and Donald Fiddler and their spouses as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her mother and father Emma and Robert Fiddler; her first husband William Durston and the love of her life of 45 years Thomas Fidler; her son-in-law George Irving; her granddaughter Donna Irving; her brother Reverend Charles Fiddler; her sister-in-law Margaret Busby; her brother-in-law Marshall Fidler and her uncle Edward “Uncle Peach” Fiddler.
The family would like to thank the management and staff at Pineview Terrace Lodge for all the love and care given to our mother while she resided there. We would also like to thank all the family and friends that came to visit her while she was a resident of Pineview and also to all the Pineview residents that became her friends.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 25 from River Park Memorial Chapel. Mrs. Margaret Ferchuk will officiate. Interment of cremated remains will take place at a later date. Family and friends may send email condolences to www.riverparkfuneral.ca. It is the family’s request that those wishing to place memorials may do so to the Pineview Terrace Lodge. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Don Moriarty, Funeral Director.
