IDA PAWLIK
1925 – 2011
Ida Pawlik (nee Erikson, Pollard) our beloved mother, grandmother and friend gently passed away in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan on May 22, 2011.
Ida was born in Nordre Land, Norway on June 25, 1925 to Ole and Karen Erikson. When Ida was only two years old her family immigrated to Canada, settling in the Tiger Hills district of Birch Hills. After completing her schooling, Ida left home at 17 and married her first husband Coral Pollard in 1944. Tragically, Coral died in 1951 – leaving Ida a widow with four small children. In 1954, she again found happiness when she married Harry George Pawlik. They moved to their little yellow dream house on 13th Street West in Prince Albert and added a son to their blended family. Ida and Harry spent many lovely years together visiting their cabin on Emma Lake, picking berries, gardening, driving down Saskatchewan roads, hunting geese and watching the annual return of the purple martins. They made many friends and enjoyed their road trips to visit family in BC and the occasional vacation to Hawaii. Her life was not untouched by tragedy – but through it all, she always found room for a smile, a hug and the occasional inappropriate joke. She had a strong sense of personal style and loved having her hair done, wearing her special jewellery and bright clothes. Even at the cabin, Ida’s trademark red hair was perfectly coiffed and nails clean and painted. Ida loved and was loved by many people. She touched many lives and taught her family important lessons that have changed our lives. She may not have been born to royalty, but to us, she was always a queen. In her last letter, she reminds us to love one another and to always walk with God. Ida had great faith in redeeming power of Jesus her saviour and God.
Ida is survived by her son Stanley (Susan) and grandchildren Craig and Meighen; daughters Sherry (John) Trofimuk and grandchildren Tania, Terry, and Geoffery; Sharen Zembik and grandchildren Jacqueline and Marcus; and Carol (Greg) Flinn and granddaughter Holly. She is also survived by brothers Magne (Faye) Erikson and Einar (Hazel) Erikson; as well as her great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She will be missed by her special friends including the Deobald Family, Laurie Pollard, and Marcel Dansereau.
Ida was predeceased by her husbands Coral Pollard and Harry George Pawlik; her sons Larry Wayne Pollard and Larry Pawlik; her parents; and six sisters and one brother.
Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2011 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK with Pastor Rick Johnson officiating. Interment will be held at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens.
