Mary Delores Lantos
December 18, 1930 – May 31, 2011
Mary was born in the Leask area in 1930 to Mary and Joseph Lantos who had immigrated to Saskatchewan from Hungry in 1925. They were hard working homesteaders. Mary was helpful on the farm by dressing up the cats and helping to shepherd and herd the cows back at the end of the day. She was an only child. As she grew up her parents were very proud of their bright young daughter who was able to teach them English.
They moved to the Bramshott area when Mary was 10 years old. She took most of her schooling there walking almost two miles each way to attend a little two-roomed wood/coal heated school house. Mary took upgrading in 1967-1968 in Prince Albert and was able to complete her grade 12 in order to apply for Business College which she completed in June of 1969.
Mary landed her career job at Co-operators Insurance and worked very efficiently there for 15 years. During this time Mary was very active in her church. She did the books, played the organ and always had a car full of ladies in tow every Sunday. She was very dedicated to the Lord and lived her life prayerfully and with strong conviction.
While Mary was busy working and going to church she also cared for her now aging parents. She was dedicated to caring for them at home until they both passed on. Mary retired from The Co-operators in 1985. After she retired you could often see her at various coffee shops enjoying a morning puzzle. She would chuckle while quoting you a joke or two from the coffee shop flyers. She kept herself busy by baking her famous cookies or sewing perfect pillow cases and aprons which she loved to give away as gifts. She was known for her flair for gift wrapping and her angel food cakes. Mary was a strong believer in preventative medicine but her health began to take a turn for the worse during the past couple of years. Mary passed away peacefully in the company of close friends while in the Vic hospital.
She is survived by her special friends and caregivers Kerri MacLeod and Lila Willis and other close friends.
She was predeceased by her parents Mary and Joseph Lantos and an infant sister Margaret.
