Margaret Ellen Scott

Margaret Ellen Scott (nee Trevethick) was born on November 22, 1924 in Melfort and grew up on the family farm in the Whittome district. She attended Prescott School, which was located on their land half a mile south of their farm. Marg excelled as a student and was an avid sportswoman, both as a participant and fan. She was very athletic and a talented pitcher and was sought after at many sports days. Marg also loved horses and dogs, and spoke fondly of her father’s team of horses that she worked with when helping him on the farm.
Marg and Harold Scott were married on October 4, 1949. They resided on the Scott family farm north of Beatty where they raised their children, Doug, Bev and Ken. As the consummate sports fan, Marg attended all of her children’s sporting activities as well as those of her grandchildren’s. She and Grandpa were awarded the great distinction of never having missed any hockey games or tournaments (time, distance or weather were never an issue). An avid fan of hockey, ball, football and curling, Marg tuned into whatever game she could on her radio and television, sometimes tuning into both simultaneously! Grandma could discuss any game and tell you any score!
Marg was a quiet and intelligent person, and anyone knowing her well knew she had a very witty sense of humour. She was patient and kind. She was very practical and worked tirelessly on the farm she loved. She enjoyed gardening and the outdoors. Marg knit, crocheted and created many beautiful needlework pictures, most of which hang beautifully framed at home. Marg loved her grandchildren and was very proud of their accomplishments. She and Grandpa kept every piece of paper or picture the grandkids ever gave to them. The grandkids loved the fact that Grandma was always on for a game of cards after school (or anytime for that matter) and her bottomless pot of coffee.
Marg made many meals for many people and entertained many houseguests over her lifetime. She gave unwavering support and did not complain to others about herself, as that was an attribute she was not fond of in others. Marg asked very little of anyone, though if she asked it was of importance and she was determined that it would be done immediately.
There are many mothers and grandmothers. This mother, grandmother and mother-in-law was our beloved Margaret Ellen Scott.
Left to mourn her passing are her children Doug (Arlee) Scott, Bev (Ron) Tithecott, and Ken Scott; her three grandchildren Tyler (Eva) Scott, Juel Scott, and Chad Tithecott; one great granddaughter Ana Scott; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Margaret was predeceased by her husband Harold and her parents Charles & Marion Trevethick.
A Graveside Service was held from the Beatty Cemetery on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Dave MacPherson officiating. The interment followed in the Beatty Cemetery.
