The family of Mary Zaiachkowski sadly announce that Mary passed away peacefully at Big River Health Care Centre on July 19, 2011 at the age of 92. Mary was born on September 8, 1918 at Kleczkowski, SK (Oscar Lake) to Wasyl and Anna (Samcoe) Bodnarchuk, the eldest of two children. She grew up on the farm and attended Krevoshein School (Oscar Lake School). In October 1936 she married Paul Gresiuk. They were blessed with two children, Elsie Ann and Orest Paul. Then in January 1944 Paul passed away from an abscess tooth, but Mary and the children stayed on the farm and farmed with the help of her brother and brother –in-laws. In September, 1946 Mary married Slawko Zaiachkowski, together they continued farming, until the fall of 1966, when they moved to town in Hafford and they still farmed from town. Then mom worked for Home Care and delivering Meals on Wheels. As the years passed and their health failed, in July of 2003, they both were admitted to the Big River Health Care Centre. The family would like to thank all the staff at the Big River Health Care Centre for the wonderful, loving and compassionate care, which allowed them to be together until the end. Mom was treated with dignity and respect for which we will forever be grateful. Mary is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Slawko; daughter, Elsie Ann Yasieniuk and her children, Mervin (Rachelle), Merviana (Shane) Keating, Brian (Darcy), Richard (Sandra) and great grandchildren, Tammy (Jason), Cassidy (Lynn), Codie, Tyler, Riley, Kolten, Bailey, Justin, Rayna and Courtney; and a great great granddaughter, Savanah; son, Orest Paul Gresiuk; and his children, David (Donna), Tim, Myrna and great grandchildren, Kristine, Alexandra, Stephanie, Alynn, Victoria and Samuel. She is also survived by brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Paul Gresiuk in 1944; her parents, Wasyl in 1972 and Anna in 1992; son-in-law, Paul in 1996; brother, Dick in 2008; and numerous in-laws. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother. She loved flowers, gardening, cooking and entertaining her family and friends. She made sure nobody left their house without having something to eat if it was lunch, supper or just a cup of coffee or tea and some dainties. She was a long standing member of the Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League. Faith and family meant alot to her. She also loved singing in the choir. Mom, may you rest in peace. We all love you and will miss you. Prayer Service will be held on Friday, July 22, 2011 at 2:00 PM at the Big River Health Centre.
