ELDON BELL
1937-2011
Eldon Gordon Bell passed away on Friday, July 15, 2011 at the age of 74 years at the Good Shepherd Villa. He is survived by his sons Gregory (Corinne) of Prince Albert, Trevor (Marlene) of Calgary, Cory of Sandy Bay; three grandchildren Tanner, Timothy and Renee; his sisters Joyce Paluk of Prince Albert; Barb (Joe) Steinberg of Prince Albert; Linda (Dave) Chipperfield of Prince Albert; his brother Dale “Bucky” (Shirley) Bell of Prince Albert as well as nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Natalka “Nat” (nee Zaleschuk); his infant son Timothy; his parents Les and Alice (nee Le Monde).
Eldon was born April 28, 1937 in Prince Albert. He married Nat in 1958. As a young man Eldon worked on the railroads then moved on to Verklan Motors in Nipawin, then moving back to PA and Arcade Motors (Lakeland Ford) as the Body Shop Manager; and later moving over to the showroom where he sold cars until his retirement.
When Eldon’s oldest son was in his second year of hockey Nat asked him to get involved. In 1975 Eldon joined the Prince Albert Minor Hockey board and remained a member until 2009. He held a variety of positions in his years – Hockey Rep, Vice President, Treasurer, Tier I Chairman and Hockey Coordinator. In 2000 Eldon became the first recipient of a lifetime membership in the PA Minor Hockey Association.
Eldon spent many years coaching and managing his kid’s teams in hockey and ball. It was the best thing that ever happened to him and he loved to make sure all kids could play and have fun…that’s why he spent countless hours volunteering.
From 1972-2011 Eldon was the President of Midtown Community Club. In his thirty nine years Eldon’s leadership and commitment to the community club attributed to growth as well as an increase in the recreational activities offered to its members. Eldon’s enthusiasm, encouragement and perseverance created many new facilities for residents of the area.
In 1987 Eldon won a Zone 8 Volunteer Recognition Award for his work in recreation. In 2000 Eldon won a Sask Sport Inc. Volunteer Award for dedicated service in Sport, Culture and Recreation. In 2005 Eldon was inducted into the Prince Albert Sports Hall of Fame in the Meritorious Service category.
When Eldon wasn’t volunteering his time he could be found at his cabin at Christopher Lake where he loved to tinker around the cabin, go fishing, take the grandkids to the beach or the mini golf. But most of all he loved watching his grandkids in all their activities….especially having them at the lake. Anyone who talked to Eldon was sure to hear about something one or all three of the grandkids had done….he was very proud of his grandkids and wanted everyone to know. He will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.
His family would like to recognize and thank Pat and all the staff at the Good Shepard Villa for all of their help. They treated him like family and went above and beyond in their care of him and we couldn’t have asked for a better place for him to live or people to help him. They treated him with respect and dignity and we thank them.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 26 from the Midtown Hall, 540 – 9 Street East. Mr. Gary MacDonald will officiate. Interment of cremated remains took place at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
Family and friends may send email condolences to www.riverparkfuneral.ca. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Lesley Sully, Funeral Director.
